5 Ways to Keep the Passover Seder Interesting
Everyone loves Pesach. It reminds us of our heritage, it’s time spent with family and friends and it’s all mixed up with nostalgia and lots of wine. And sometimes…it can lag. Maybe it’s your cousin who just returned from Shana Aleph who wants to share every Dvar Torah ever written, or your neighbor who is just fixated on all of the multiplication in Magid. Regardless of what’s causing the extension of an already lengthy Seder, there are some things you can do to pass the time.
Take a sip every time someone mentions Egypt/Miztrayim. Wait for someone to tell you it isn’t time to drink. It should happen quickly.
Ask if anyone knows the Dvar Torah about the 6th son. Bonus: ask about the 7th son.
When the Seder arrives at Rachtzah, shout “Didn’t we already do this?!?” or “Again, seriously??!?” Feel out the crowd and use your judgement.
During the part of Magid when everyone either take a finger and splashes out some wine or pours it out, observe what everyone is doing, and then do the other one. People will be confused. Bonus: If someone asks you if it’s your minhag, answer “no, why?”
Do your best impressions of the angel of death, a dog, a cat, water, and a goat during Chad Gadya.
Even though we read the same Haggadah every year, there are always ways to keep people on their toes. Use this list as inspiration to find your own unique path toward Seder entertainment. Wishing you a Chag Sameach!
